STORIA

"Major pilgrimages"

I pray that thoughtful pilgrims go.

And I said 'pilgrims' according to the broad meaning of the Vocabulaire, the pilgrim can be understood in two ways, one broad and one narrow: wide, it is weird because everyone is out of his home, so not strictly s' weird if you do not mean those who go to the house know 'James and the rest returns. And therefore it is to know that in three ways is the proper name of the people that go to the service of the Most High, called palmers as they go overseas, whence many times bear the palm are called pilgrims as they go to the house of Galicia, know that the tomb of 'James fue de farthest his home and any other apostle, as they are called pilgrims went to Rome, where beyond these cu' I call pilgrims were going. (Dante Alighieri - Vita Nova - Chapter XL)

The three major pilgrimages of antiquity were:

Jerusalem - Rome - Santiago de Compostela

DOVE ANDARE

In addition to the major (Jerusalem - Rome - Santiago de Compostela) in the past there were other important places of pilgrimage: Monte Gargano and Mont Saint Michel to the cult of the Archangel Michael, to honor Saint Martin Tours, Loreto Home of Maria (pilgrimage LAURETANA called VIA) ....
Currently there are many pilgrimage routes in Europe and in Italy, just have the courage to undertake the journey.
A small introduction: those who intend to perform for the first time a pilgrimage on foot to conduct the first to recommend the Camino de Santiago, where he lives a very special atmosphere ... and it is also rooted in the hospitality and the pilgrim people is respected as such.
We list below those that we believe are the most significant and well-organized:
CAMINO DE SANTIAGO (Spain) to go to the Tomb del'Apostolo James;
Via Francigena (Italy) to go to the Tomb of Peter;
HOLY LAND (Israel) to go to the Sepulchre of our Lord Jesus - by St. John of Acre (now Akko) in Jerusalem. Only for Pilgrim experts;

QUANDO PARTIRE

There is a period "ideal" to go on pilgrimage, the pilgrimage is decided by each person's heart, that being said, we believe that the best time to make a pilgrimage on foot is the period between May and September. We also note that every path has its peculiarities and characteristics of metereoligiche turnout. Camino de Santiago: May and June and is likely sttembre water every day in Galicia in July and August but given the crowded shelters are always full. WALK MONT SAINT MICHEL: June and July and August are the best view of the latitude and May and September you risk the rain and cold. WALK IN ITALY: May, June and sttembre are the months when the heat fades but the risks' water, while July and August are the months when the heat is high. HOLY LAND (ISRAEL): May, June and September and October are the months when the heat is oppressive, good is also the month of November. WALK FATIMA: the same considerations of the Camino de Santiago.
